Construction
complete at new Ada W. Harris Elementary School in Cardiff-by-the-Sea
Construction
is complete for the new construction of Ada W. Harris Elementary
School in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. A ribbon-cutting and community
event celebrated the completion, and featured Cardiff students,
Cardiff board of trustees, Principal Chris Wilson, Ada W.
Harris School staff, and community members.
The new
Ada W. Harris school was constructed in just over 12 months.
50,000 square feet of space was added in two new buildings.
One building features a multi-purpose room and kitchen, and
the other contains classrooms as an energy-saving feature.
Ada W. Harris school educates 470 children in grade 3.6. This
new construction represents a replacement campus. The old
campus is slated for demolition.
Ridger
Smith, Superintendent of Cardiff Schools led the team. From
HMC Architects were Randy Peterson, Principal in Charge; Katherine
Lord, Project Designer, and Bernard "Ski" Kruzynski,
Project Architect. From Barnhart were Brian Cahill, Principal
in Charge; Richard Bruce, Project Manager; Brian Rasmussen,
Superintendent' Barbara Welch, Project Engineer; Alexander
Salas, Project Coordinator; and Sue Davis, Site Office Administrator.
HMC design
consultants include Structural Affiliates, structural engineers;
Syska & Hennessy, mechanical engineers; Johnson Consulting,
electrical engineers; and Nowell & Associates, landscape
engineers. Trade contractors included Brady Company, Baker
Electric, Advance Plumbing, Brookwood Landscape, Iron Horse,
JP Witherow, Murray Cabinets, Olsen Steel, Plaza Glass, and
Schultz Contracting.
