LUSD breaks
ground on north Stockton school
Lodi
Unified School District officials held a groundbreaking ceremony
Monday for the new Christa McAuliffe Middle School in north
Stockton.
The $11.7
million project will feature classrooms and administration
offices in two buildings for a combined 83,000 square feet.
Christa
McAuliffe Middle is the first California campus to be approved
by state architects using tilt-up concrete design, a method
commonly used in commercial construction.
Located
on Iron canyon and McAuliffe drives, the school is expected
to be completed in spring 2004.
The school
was designed by Cordoba, Gervin and Schweitzer Architects
and Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc. is managing its construction
for Lodi Unified.
Christa
McAuliffe Middle was one of seven new campuses to be build
through Measure K, the district's $109.3 million school bond
approved by voters in March.
