Barnhart Completes City Hall Expansion

The City of Mission Viejo and San Diego-based construction manager Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc. completed construction of the new $14 million City Hall and Library Expansion project in April.

Barnhart, Inc., in partnership with the city and LPA Architects, managed the design and construction of a new 52,303 sq. ft. City Hall. Features include administrative space, council chamber and an emergency operations center/community room, which will house the city's municipal functions.

The library expansion is 14,441 sq. ft., bringing the total size to 29,940 sq. ft. This area provides additional space for the library collection, study rooms, a state-of-the-art television studio and traffic control room. The facility features structural steel and wood frame as well as metal stud and exposed glue-lam.

A tongue and groove ceiling and copper roof were constructed to match the existing facility, which incorporates both glass and aluminum composite panels at the exterior integrated with EIFS. The exterior of the building has a stone veneer.
