Design-build complex completed for Marines at Camp
Pendleton
Douglas E. Barnhart Inc. and design-build
partner Mosher Drew Watson & Ferguson have completed the
Staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) Academy facility and
an accompanying Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) at Camp Pendleton.
The new 85,000-square-foot facility is comprised of five buildings,
including the BEQ, and activity center, the academy, a warehouse
and an armory. Constructed of masonry, the facility
provides lodging for Academy students and is one of only two
educational facilities in the nation built expressly to train
SNCO. SNCO personnel will receive a professional military
education, including educational, mental and physical training,
leadership development, tactics and strategies, operations,
communications, and employment of weapons systems. A
cast-in-place concrete amphitheater for graduation and parade
ceremonies was also constructed.
Key subcontractors included Sierra Pacific West, New Dimension
Masonry, Quality Reinforcing, Partition Specialties, Burch
Construction, Schultz Contracting, R.J. Lanthier, Gould Electric
and Nick Pecoraro Painting. The contractor's team members
included Tex Barnhart as the principal-in-charge, Ken Bingham
as superintendent and John Roach as quality control manager.
For the architect, team members included Larry Hoeksema and
Bill Magnuson. The developer is Southwest Division (SWDIV)
Naval Facilities Engineering Command.
