Barnhart Breaks Ground on Bear Valley

ESCONDIDO - A team led by general contractor Douglas E. Barnhart Inc. of San Diego and Irvine-based LPA Architects broke ground on a $16.3 million campus for Bear Valley Middle School. The project owner is Escondido Union School District.

The 104,000-sq.-ft. school in Escondido will house 1,200 students in grades 6 to 8. The school features wood-frame, steel and plaster construction in six buildings. Administration offices, classrooms, a band room and multi-purpose room are included. The school is scheduled to open in 2004.

Working on the project for the school district are Dr. Mike Caston, superintendent of schools, and Gina Manusov, director of facilities, planning and construction. Julie Rich has been selected as the future principal of Bear Valley Middle School.

Barnhart team members will include Jim Fisher, Dale Burum, Dan Smith and Ann Sadberry.
