School bond Web site coming
By:
David Garrick
Poway
Unified will launch a Web site early next month where residents
can learn details about projects and renovations being funded
by school bond money.
The site
will feature timelines for each of the projects funded by
the bond, progress reports on projects under construction,
details about how the bonds are sold and a "frequently
asked questions" section.
The site
links off the Poway Unified Web site at www.powayusd.sdcoe.k12.ca.us.
There
will also be a link to a separate Web site that will provide
details about the seven-member volunteer panel overseeing
expenditures from the school bond. That panel, which is called
the Citizens Oversight Committee, was asked Monday night to
help create its own Web site so local residents can find out
what the panel has accomplished.
That
site will probably include descriptions of each member, their
e-mail addresses, minutes from COC meetings and a meeting
schedule.
Todd
Gutschow, vice-chairman of the panel, said it is important
for residents to be able to e-mail panel members directly
in case they are intimidated by district officials.
The panel,
which was created by the Poway Unified board in February,
held its fifth meeting Monday night. The group provides input
on budget, scope, management and construction schedules.
On Monday
night, the members got a look at design plans for the first
four bond projects: Midland and Westwood elementaries, and
Poway and Mt. Carmel high schools.
The panelists
include Gutschow, Andy Berg, Tony Heinrichs, Lee Dulgeroff,
Chrissa Corday, Kathy Frost and Chairman Fred Sanford.
Poway
Unified officials who attend COC meetings include Deputy Superintendent
John Collins, Associate Superintendent Keith Bradford, Facilities
Executive Director Doug Mann and Facilities Director Mark
Miller.
Other
attendees include Mark Claussen and Jerry King from PinnacleOne/Barnhart
Construction, and Jon Baker from NTD Architects.
